I know Patrick Kaleta is tough to play against, and one of those guys you love on your team and love to hate elsewhere (thankfully, he's OURS!), but he is one swell dude to have in the community.
Tom Kaleta, Pat's dad, announced today that they have finalized the finances for building an ice rink in Springville! :) This is great news, since S-ville is only 20 minutes from where I live. Maybe my little nephews can play some hockey, which they are wanting to do but just makes no sense for us since we are so far away from hockeyness. They say the ground-breaking is scheduled for April and it should be completed by August. Rock on! :)

what a game
I feel like I should write something since I was at the game tonight (3rd in a row!) ..
It was an intense game and there were so many frickin Habs fans there it was annoying! The ones around us were mostly okay but the 2 girls in the row in front of us were just obnoxious. They weren't wearing any pants (tights are NOT pants) and we could see the one girl's underwear- classy, eh? Ugh and they kept standing up and pounding on the glass and smashing themselves on the glasss- it was gross. And then they kept yelling at the random Leafs fans behind us- 1967 *which is, of course, the last time the Leafs won the Cup.* Honestly, it was funny for about a minute- but they kept saying it.. and then we'd cheer "let's go Buffalo" and they'd say "Never won a Stanley Cup". Woo. It's the middle of the regular season. Montreal hasn't won since 1993 so get with the times. And they were only up by 1 goal but they were so cocky about it- so we cheered extra loud and hard when the Sabres scored. And during overtime, we all went NUTS and they just sat there and whimpered. HA!
The poor Canadiens though- they lost about a zillion players tonight- their guys were dropping like flies. That's never fun- and most of them were just random plays or getting hit by pucks or falling wrong. No fun at all.
Nathan Gerbe had a little scrum with (gaghurl) Scott Gomez. It was amazing. Gerbe rocks my socks. :) He's so feisty and little!
I really love it when the Sabres win when I'm there because I get to see Patrick Lalime do his little victory dance- it's so cute! He has different moves for each player too- he and Montador (whom I also love) have a strange sort of routine going on.. it's hilarious to watch. :) He may not be the best goalie, but I have a soft spot for Patty Lalime- he seems like a fun guy!
Speaking of Steve Montador- he is very flexible. He has a stretching routine he does before the start of each period and WOW it's nice to watch. Sorry, had to get that out there.
There were some serious bullshit penalties tonight. The "goalie interference" on Gerbe was crap- he got shoved into Price- not his fault! And the Kaleta one at the end of the period was uncool. It was right in front of me- he was shooting the puck AS the buzzer went off. He didn't know how much time was on the clock. Crappy call there too. But the ref made up for a little bit later on one of the calls, I forget which one. The Gomez high-sticking was a little scary- any lower and he would have removed Gerbe's head! It was vicious, and I'm glad they called it, even though he made little contact. I hate that punk.
It was a fun night overall. And I didn't have to beat anyone up- that was lucky. :)

good job boys
Geeeez..
This Sabres game is something else.
So far we're 3-0 and wow- this is the most complete game I've seen from the Sabres. It's not over yet but I like what's going on. Lots of scrappin, some goals, some great teamwork.
And all against Columbus, a team which usually beats us.
Some rough stuff:
McCormick has words with Commodore.
Monty had a little tussle with Boll- he did okay- especially considering his opponent.
And then..
All the Kaleta haters need to back off a little after that tilt with Dorsett. That was some old school minor-league style brawling right there. Nice job!
And some random, out of order thoughts:
Royzie's pass on the 2nd goal was SICK. That whole play was well executed. The boys are actually playing like a TEAM instead of a bunch of punks who've never met.
Now we're at 4-0. No, make that 5-0. WOWZERS.
Of course this would happen. I was going to go to the game tonight.. but things got a little crazy during the day. I was planning to take my nephew but my sis wanted him to go to this other thing so I said.. whatev. But then I couldn't find a friend to go with me on such short notice.. and I didn't feel like going alone. I also wasn't feeling terribly great- been having a headache (it's sort of sinus-y and PMS-y-- a gross combo) for the last 2 days, plus I was tired. AND the Sabres always play like crap against CBJ so I wasn't worried about this being a good game.
Well whaddya know? They have the frickin BEST GAME OF THE SEASON tonight. Oh well. I knew if I had gone they would have lost so if I stayed home they'd win.. figures.

the kids are alright
Helllllooo Tyler Ennis. I don't know if I've said it here or not but man I like that kid. He is the real deal and he is so fun to watch. Lots of moxie, and tons of speeeeeed. :) Tennis the Menace indeed.
And Nathan Gerbe looked great in his playoff debut. I love him, every time he plays I just want to grab him and squish him. He's SO LITTLE!
I've also been very impressed with McCormick. He's not as flashy and Gerbe and Ennis but he's a tough kid who hits everything that moves and he's got some quick feet himself.
What a fun game tonight. The building was rocking again, of course and the boys finally gave us a proper effort. (FOR THE WHOLE GAME!) I must say though, I felt much better with a 3 goal lead than the dreaded 2 goal lead. No real meltdowns, though they let Boston have a ton of chances in the 3rd, they also kept the pressure on themselves.
Lots of hitting, lots of blocked shots, lots of hustle and calm, smart play. Ennis's move to snag the puck and pass it to Roy who set up Pommers for the 2nd goal was just SICK. There were a couple of moves like that tonight. The Sabres finally showed that they can play hard and solid for 60 minutes and it totally paid off for them. Good job, boys. :)
A few notes:
-What do we have to do to get Tim Connolly to HIT SOMEBODY? He shies away from contact more than any hockey player I've ever seen. It's absurd. I'm sorry dude, but if Tyler Ennis and Derek Roy can hit Chara (and they both did, separately and together), then you can frickin lay a hit on someone.. anyone. You're a big enough dude. Quit being a wuss.
-I'm seeing shades of the old sparkplug Royzie that I miss so dearly. He really seems to thrive playing with Ennis and Gerbe. (maybe cuz they're all the same size.. lol) Whatever it is, he needs to keep doing it. He played hard tonight and had an assist on the scoreboard but was good all around.
-GOOOOOOOSE! He was very much a leader on the ice tonight, by example. He and Grier were going hard all night and the rest of the boys too their cue from those two and actually got involved physically as well. I usually like Goose, but I thought he was looking a bit rough in the last few games. Glad to see him back in form.
-I hate Chara. 'Nuff said. He was a -2 tonight! YAY!
-In the post-game interviews, Paul Hamilton asked Gaustad if he slashed Chara to start that scrum at the end of the game and Goose said "I don't know. Did I?" It cracked me up. I was literally in my car laughing. Just his tone of voice.. so innocent. awesome.
The mood tonight was crazy after the game. People were cheering and dancing in the streets and just acting wild. It made me laugh because this wasn't even a deciding game. But it does mean that the Sabres have at least one more game.. and if we're lucky, at least 2 more...

YAY Sharpie FTW!
My sister Brett, my nephews, and I had a great time at the Blackhawks/Blue Jackets game tonight! it was a super awesome game- lots of hitting, lots of goals.. great times all around. The CBJ crowd is a ton of fun- they were chanting and clapping and having a blast. :) The Blackhawks managed to win in a shootout, but the game was back and forth all around. the Blue Jackets had a 2-0 lead which then became 2-2 shortly into the 2nd period. The the 'Hawks added 2 more and it was 4-3 Chicago going into the third. Columbus tied it up halfway into the 3rd and then we had OT (where Garon made some INSANE saves for CBJ) and then a shootout. All in all, it was great fun.
and Sharpie had a great game- he had a goal and an assist.. and he played 24 minutes. He was all over the place, and earned himself First Star! :) yay! I was able to get there for warm-ups and get a few pics of him and the other 'Hawks. Pat Kane is tiny!
yay for winning hockey! :)
Now, bring on the Olympics!

something strange is going on
I'm attempting a live blog for the first time in a long time, we'll see how it goes.
This is a really bizarre game time. A lot of the games today are at odd times. I know it's the day after Thanksgiving and all but it's a Friday. Weird.
I know I've said this before but I really dislike the Flyers' uniforms. The colors are just garish and the way that the names look pasted on.. it is old and strugglin lookin. Not a fan of them at the best of times, and this throwback look makes me want to hurl- and possibly gouge my eyeballs out.
I am a little cranky today so if the Sabres start playing like crap, it's going to get ugly. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with my fam- my parents, brother and one of my sisters made the trek and I have tons of things to be very thankful for. However, I am currently having hideous menstrual cramps and still suffering from what I call the 'food hangover' of Thanksgiving, this feeling huge and hurting, bad combo.
But if the Sabres decide to play well (for once) and actually WIN while I'm watching, that will make me feel better! *hint, hint*
So far I haven't commented on the game at all. That's not a good sign. Even though I've got the game on, I've been typing this and answering endless questions from the nephew (not that I mind too much, I think it's adorable that he likes hockey so much) but it's a bit distracting. I need to focus.
GOOD EFFORT, STAFFY! A nice end to end rush with Timmy and some hustle by Drew results in the Sabres first goal. :) THAT is what we need to see, hustle, initiative, and a good heads-up play. Please, sir, may I have some more?
I missed the whole Kaleta/Ross incident (was folding laundry) but I would appreciate some input about the whole deal if anybody wants to enlighten me.
I'm bothered by the fact that for some reason either my TV or the feed is declining to show me the score and time and all that. Oh wow, it just came back.
WHOAAAAA wait a minute. HOW was that a 2 minute roughing call when Richards (even if it was unintentional ) got his STICK up in Myers' face? Yeesh. And now Laperriere got whacked in the face with the puck. Man oh man.
It still feels weird to be watching hockey in the middle of the day.
Roy, when you try to run through 3 guys with the puck, it's usually not going to work. Just a note. What kind of messed up power play is this, Sabres? YOU have an extra man... did you fail to notice this? Oh, look- power play is over. Not like it mattered too much to the Sabres.
WHAT THE? Helloooo Sabres, how did you let Richards be alone in front of your net? I only could see 1 d-man on that play, and it was Montador, he was covering Carter.. who was (supposed to be) on Richards? Hmm I think it should have been Butler. Oops.
OH NO OH NO OH NO WHAT?????? How did the Flyers just score again? EWWWWWWW NO! (oh and btw, RJ, it bounced off Timmy Connolly, not Tallinder or Myers) That was a knuclepuck if I've ever seen one!
---intermission---
Awwwww Goose loooked so uncomfortable while his Dad was talking..
Royzie, what is up with that hat? LOL
Lindy also looks awkward to have his Dad talking about him.
Montador looked a bit like Royzie there, not sure what was up with that.. I've never though that before. I love his hair though, just gotta say. /fangirl
The boys are cute, they seem like they must be modest young men.
YAY thank you Sabres for FINALLY giving us a little something of the boys off the ice. I like seeing all of their dads- I hope they post that video online.. so I can re-watch it and analyze it. Hahaha
It's snowing. Like raining snow. This happens often where I live, but this is only the 2nd time it's snowed this year. I'm not one of those people who hates snow- I like it! So, it's about time. :)
---back to the game--
And, we're back! Rivet and Carcillo do a little dance (make a little love, get down tonight) and that wasn't terribly exciting. I'm a little scared of Carcillo- he's kind of a beast so I'm glad Rivet was able to live through it.
Gee guys, really? Way to negate a power play. (not like we can do anything with it anyway) Holding the Stick is just one of many hockey phrases that sound dirty. (yes, I'm 10 years old)
WOOOOOT The Sabres finally remembered that power plays mean they have ONE MORE GUY on the ice than the other team does.. and used it! Good job Goose! I mean HONK HONK HONK!
Wow, Butler is one of 2 players in the NHL born in Missouri? What an interesting stat.
Oh my, what a commotion- Rivet and Carcillo pt. 2. That was a bit more spirited... and I love how Carcillo flew over for the fight. It was a little wild.
I missed the end of the 2nd period because the little guy and I went outside to catch snowflakes for a while. But the score is still 2-2 so that's good.
---- Intermission Part 2-------
More chatting with the Papas. :) WOW Ryan Miller looks like his Dad in a serious way. I think I've noticed that before but man.. that is bustin.
I find it interesting that the Supercuts commercials only show men. Do they really think that men are the only people watching hockey? C'mon.
Goose has 6 goals for the season? Good for him. Some people (Derek Roy, I'm looking at YOU!) need to step it up..
----3rd period----
What is with the officiating today? That was obviously a high stick on Kennedy and yet no call? The Flyers guy (didn't get his name) WENT TO THE BOX. he knows he did it.. yet they can't call it? LAME.
Wow Laperriere is a hard core dude. I remember him from when I first started watching hockey. I mean, really- take a puck the mouth, go away for a while, come back with however many stitches and less 4 teeth.. and keep playing? WOW.
WOOOO Connolly- "Top Shelf where mama hides the cookies!" GOOOOOD JOB! And WOW, that was s siiiick pass by MacArthur-- 3-2 Sabres! (now, please remember how to play hockey for a while, guys.)
Harry Neal- must you always talk about how the Sabres haven't allowed a PP goal- IN THE MIDDLE of a power play? That is asking for the Flyers to score! C'mon dude, don't you understand the power of hockey superstitions? Yeesh, man!
How unnatural is Derek Roy in that stupid Celino and Barnes commercial? I mean, it's awesome that he's donating money (if he ever scores another goal) but he is a terrible actor and he can't even say 'hello I'm Derek Roy' and sound like he means it. Pathetic.. but at least it makes me laugh.
WOOOOOO Wait a second- now it's 4-2.. that line of Connolly, Stafford and MacArthur is just ON FIRE today! I like it I like it!
Um, really? The tripping call on Butler was WEAK. He was going for the puck- had the puck ON his stick, and the Flyer just ran into his stick. Once again, that is a weak call. It ended up not being a big deal as the Sabres killed that penalty, but I am not impressed.
I know why I don't do this more often.. these get long because I always find that I have more to say than I thought I did.
What happened to Goose? Why is he broken?
oooh RJ, you made my day by saying 'A little too much mustard on that one'. I love that phrase so much! :)
Oh no! Poor Rivet.. he's been so solid this game and now he goes down awkwardly into the boards. It looks like he jammed his leg/knee/something. Whatever it is, it's NOT GOOD. :(
ANd those bastards in Philadelphia frickin BOOED him! I've heard that they do that.. but I've never noticed firsthand. What a lack of class. I mean seriously that is just disgusting. Regardless of your team affiliation, they are HUMAN beings and when you see someone get hurt, you shouldn't boo him as he leaves the ice. That is just Low. I am sickened.
C'mon Ryan Miller! He has been pretty ON today, just a little over a minute left, baby.
Dude, when they showed the guys on the bench during the timeout, Mairsy looked like he was gonna kill someone with his eyes. And, just for the record, Scott Hartnell has HIDEOUS hair!
Alrighty, the Sabres won! AND (more importantly) they played a good game. Great job, guys!

WOOOOT
DEREK ROY SCORED A GOAL! YAY!
Also, Tyler Sloan scored a goal for the Caps tonight. He's been randomly playing on the left wing. Good for him! :)
Yay hockey! More to come- I was AT the game tonight and I have some thoughts but I'm really tired.

Welcome all welcome all welcome all my friends
Yippie, I went to my first (reg season) Sabres game tonight! :) It was grand.... oh how I love hockeytime!
Some thoughts on the game:
-I really liked Myers. He played pretty solidly- but he does occasionally get caught too deep in the zone- however, he was not bad for only his 2nd game. :) And his heads-up play to keep the puck in the zone for that first goal was REALLY GREAT. (and right in front of me) Good job!!
-The dudes behind me were raggin on Butler all night.. I didn't think he was that bad, but seriously, I was not happy with Hank. (sorry Heather!) He seemed lazy tonight, or slow. He shied away from contact and wasn't playing with much hustle. It was disappointing and I have no idea what is up with him but I want old Hank back.
-Royzie was decent. He made some really slick plays a few times and had some great chances.
-I really LOVED the pressure the Sabres managed to keep FOR THE WHOLE GAME. They really didn't let up the pace at all and it FINALLY paid off for them. That was really great to see because that is something they have certainly struggled with.
-Miller played very well tonight. He came up with some SICK saves and the right time to keep the boys in it. That is the Ryan Miller we all know and love and that's who we need to see night in and night out. I think his stellar play really kept the boys going.
-I liked Montador. He was good on the point during those power plays especially.
-Speaking of the power play, they have to got to get that in gear. They finally put one away after 29038098654 minutes of PP time. (which is not to say they didn't have chances galore, but it was grand for one to finally go in!) Gotta work on taking advantage of that opportunity.
-Go MacArthur. He had a rough pre-season but looked pretty great tonight with the goal (a really smart play to hold on to the puck like he did.) and an assist on Vanek's goal. Good on ya, Clarke.
-Kaleta was fantastic tonight- super feisty: fighting, hitting and drawing penalties left and right, just like he's supposed to. He's fun to watch. Goose was ready to go with Upshall too, but I think Scottie was afraid. Haha.
-Jason Labarbera. WHOA. This dude is not amazing (career stats-wise), but he sure played a good game tonight. I was somewhat surprised to see him in net after Bryz had the shutout against the Pens last night, but it worked out pretty well. The Sabres had 39 shots on goal, and he stopped all but 37. That is not too bad of a night, if I do say so. He should feel pretty okay about it, all things considered.
-I had so much fun being AT a Sabres game again.. ahhh hockey. :) I started a few "Let's Go Buffalo" cheers. (if you heard some from 116, that was me, and the dudes around me LOL) I love love love that!
-The guys next to me were hilarious. The guys behind me were fun too, and one of them was super hot. He plays hockey too, and spent all game pointing out little things the players were doing to the kids he was with. It was really neat to listen in.
-I took a few pics tonight, and they are on facebook, along with some other random ones from the day.. Link is HERE, and hey, add me as a fb friend if you haven't already! :)
-Ran into Clare, Frostee, Kim and Kelsi (who I was meeting for the first time) in the concourse. That was cool- great to see you ladies! :)
And I think that's about all I have. A great Sabres win tonight. Hopefully more to come! :)

Helloooooo Mr. Roy
Guys I got a picture taken WITH Derek Roy today! This made me very excited and I almost embarassed myself by squeeeee-ing like a fangirl. But I managed to keep it all inside, at least until I walked away and called my sis.
Seriously, he was at Great Skate signing autographs. It was cool- well no actually it was HOT because it was outside, and someone decided it would actually be summer today. (I hate summer weather.) But I managed to not melt (or get sunburned- thank you SPF 50!) and got an autograph on my jersey and a picture with Derek.
I did not enter the store of Great Skate, nor did I peruse the merchandise at their tent sale because I do not need or really want anything from there. I'm sure there is tons of lovely hockey-ness inside/outside but I dearly love and am very attached to my 12 year old pair of hockey skates (Bauer Supreme 76s- my 16th birtday present) which are perfectly molded to my feet through years of skating in them. Similarly I love my old, used Easton wood 95 something or other Steve Yzerman model stick that I bought about 7 years ago from a used sporting goods store that has a wicked sweet (probably illegal) curve on it. My scraggly hockey gloves could possibly use replacing, but I use them so rarely that it doesn't really matter.
So the point of all that rambling is that while there is lovely merchandise at Great Skate, I did not need (nor could really afford) it so I stayed away. Wise of me, eh? But they were kind enough to hold the signing outside so I was still able to "meet" my favorite Sabre and get his autograph and picture.
For those who are wondering- Derek looked pretty good. (and I don't mean (just) his face LOL) Maybe he's been working out this summer so he can be ready for camp and not some fat lazy slob like he was at the start of last season. I hope he comes out on fire and we can get some of the old, feisty, scrappy Derek back. He was fun. He was very pleasant and polite, chatting it up with all the little kids, which was cute. he didn't quite smile for my pic, but it's still pretty good. I'm not complaining. :)
So without further ado (and no more babbling, I'm sure y'all are sick of me already) here is the pic of Derek Roy and I! :)

just a bit of something there..
Who knew the Sabres had it in them.. to not only NOT fall apart in the 3rd, but to rally back and Win?
WOOOHOO! And with Miller set to come back Friday things are looking up. This could be a chance to do something good. GO SABRES!
:)
I didn't see most of the game- turned it on right when Mac was scoring his goal but since that happened and Timmy put one in right after, I decided to stay with it. I'm glad I did. Wish I had gone tonight.. I think we even had tickets. WHoops. (not that it was possible to go, there was way too much happening at home, but still.)
I might be in attendance for Friday's game, we'll see.
And here is a new hockey SAB for the week.. it took me ages to find one, but I rather like it. What do you think?

-Newly minted Sabre Mikael Tellqvist
AND

-Everyone's favorite rude chef- Gordon Ramsey.
Separated at Birth? You be the judge.
I'm kinda feelin it, in the eyes and such. Ramsey looks quite a bit older and somewhat rougher but the resemblance is there for sure.

money man
Well.. Timmay seems to be living up to his fat new contract.. so far at least. of course that wasn't really the issue- we know he can produce, but can he remain in one piece?
And it would look like the rest of the boys are getting serious about this whole "making the playoffs" gig. I didn't see tonight's game- I was at the Niagara/Alabama-Hunstville (someone tell me why they play in the CHA again? Not exactly regional LOL) game with the 2 youngest nephews instead. That game was pretty fun, though the crowd was kinda small- is it spring break for NU? and UAH brought a bunch of fans. They always do, I think they make it a big trip, check out the Falls and all that jazz. Anyway the game ended in a 2-2 tie, but it wasn't a bad game. I had a hard time when I realized that it had been a YEAR since my last NU game. :( I used to work there- I was the PA announcer for soccer, women's hockey , swimming and softball from 2003-2005 and also did some women's bball, baseball, lacrosse, and the occasional men's hockey game. Then in 2006, I was the voice for MEN's and women's hockey- the kid they had for the men's games flaked on them and they REQUESTED me. It was pretty badass, and that was when they started their whole "we aren't ever going to lose at home again" run of 22-straight wins/ties at home. It was brilliant and TONS of fun. Last year they gave me the big diss on the announcing but I still made to a handful of games. Tonight was my first game all season. I think they've missed me because they haven't been as good this year. :( (cuz I have sooooo much to do with it LOL!)
Anyway I really like hockey at Niagara. The rink is small but it's a good time. When the students are there it can get a little rowdy. :) We used to have way too much fun up in the press box too. Man.. there were weekends when I practically LIVED up there- between men's and womens' hockey games. It was great and I do miss it.
Back to the Sabres- I did listen to the end of the Sabres game and a bit of the postgame. I loved the score, and from all reports it was another solid effort all around. My bro-in-law and sis were at the game and they said it was rough and phoenix is pretty dirty. But from the word on thestreet post-game, the fellas (Rivet) stepped up and laid some smack down on the 'yotes. :) good.
From all reports, Moore looked pretty good out there too. I am excited about this guy, can't wait to see him play myself.
I'm excited about tomorrow night's Lady Blogger Soiree- it will be great to meet up with some of my Sabres blog buddies in person! :) And of course, check the boys and hopefully another solid win. Should be good times.
And with that, it's off to bed.

Glad I'm blue
Paul Gaustad is a Goose.
So says my 2-yr old nephew. And he KNOWS these things.
Speaking of Mr. Goose.. he's been awfully quiet tonight. Are we sure he's playing? Did I miss something? He sure is dreamy in the Green Team commercials though.
Roy seems like he wants a goal. None yet but he's been kind of all over the place tonight. (and he's got the scruff back so it's about that time)
Oh and just in case you missed it, David Booth is a "slippery customer" according to Harry. Where does he come up with that stuff? That's awesome. LOL
It was the Butler did it! (Sorry, I just can't help saying that every time I hear Chris Butler's name. I'm a nerd. I know this.)
I am hearing some Let's Go Buffalo up in that piece. That is great.
Seriously though, if we are talking about the game... I don't know that Booth should have had a penalty shot. I mean, a penalty sure, but that didn't look like a clear breakaway to me. Oh well I'm not in charge, am I? But how boneheaded can we be- 2 penalties on the same play? Bad news.. 5 and 10. Eeeks.
Ewwww Nathan Horton scored. Now it's tied. Argh. C'mon Buffalo. Get it together guys.
Right about now would be a sweet time for a goal, Royzie. You can't let your BFFFF David Booth take all the glory tonight.
Oh and YAY for Birthday Boy Thomas Vanek with a goal. Good job buddy. I'm glad you could celebrate your bday in style. That must be fun. It's not usually fun to work on your birthday, but I guess when "work" is playing hockey AND you score a goal, that's not so bad. Heh. I'd just like to GO to a hockey game on my bday, but that isn't something that happens when your birthday is August 26. LOL
Roy REALLY wants a goal here. Yeeks Sabres iced it with 17 secs left. DON'T GIVE IT AWAY HERE BOYS! Be smart. Be smart.
Awww the little Sabres fan is cute! There are many Sabres fans at the game tonight.. I love it!
And we're going to Oooooooooovertime! *phew* Are we gonna get another fancy shootout tonight? Well we get at least 1 point so that is good. We need all the points we can get against Florida.. now we need to steal 2.
I feel that Pominville needs a goal tonight. It's been a while for him. I guess we'll see what happens. Here we go.
Wow it's pretty fast and furious so far in the OT. Some chances on both ends.. WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA what just happened? Miller made 2 saves with no goal stick.. Butler neatly tied up Booth (without drawing a penalty..that was really cool) and somehow.. somehow the Sabres are still in it.
*Anyone notice the kid behind the FLA bench with a Penguins Winter Classic sweater on? RANDOM.
Yeesh we are going to a shootout. Man, Booth was all over the ice for the last minute and a half or so. That guy is crazy.
Woohoo Miller stones Horton and Booth on the first 2... and with a goal by Kotalik it's all on Royzie....... AND HE SCORES!!!!!!WOOHOOO Good job my man. :) That's 2 SO in a row that Roy had the game winner. Too bad that doesn't count towards his goal total. (but it counts in the big picture which is the best..)
YAY! Not too bad of a game, all around. Well done boyos. :) Let's do it again in Tampa, shall we? See ya there.
**Now hold on a minute here. They gave the deciding goal to Kotalik. But that's not fair because if Roy hadn't scored then there would have been another shooter. So shouldn't Royzie's be the deciding goal? Hmm. **

Now that was refreshing
The Sabres actually played a GOOD GAME! Not one of those we'll play 20 minutes or 40 or 55.5 but an actual, 60-minute effort from the whole team. I LIKE it! Very well done, boys.
I really enjoyed Miller's post game interview as well. He seemed so relaxed and... happy. Not giddy like when snatching victory from defeat (i.e.Dallas) but just happy with the way they are playing. It's so refreshing to see the boys not looking all defeated and lost all the time.
See how much more FUN winning is, fellas? You can do it.. YOU CAN DO IT ALLLLL NIGHT LONG! :):)
I like it!
And that's really all. I don't want to re-hash the game. They played complete hockey for the first time in a long time and damn it felt good.

the goose is loose
Wow last night's game was something else. I'm glad I wasn't liveblogging because this place would have been very angry. Instead I barely watched the game.. more listened to it because they were making me sick.. and I was working on a new puzzle I got for Christmas. But I was paying attention to the game and I was super happy when they finally got their act together and started to play like they actually wanted to win. Goose just owned everybody last night. Good job!
Royzie played decently and his shootout goal was sick. He had a lot of chances. Woohoo for Yo-Yo to finally get one.. and I'm glad MacArthur was able to contribute too.. he's been awfully quiet of late on the scoresheet. Miller was good when he need to be (though there were some questionable moments for a bit there) The boys really put the pressure on in the 2nd and 3rd and were able to get the 2 points to show for it. It was an admirable effort to come back from a 3-0 defecit and take it in the shootout. *phew* And check it- they were SHOOTING THE PUCK! And they scored 4 goals... coincidence? I think not. (oh, btw Miller says THANKS GUYS for scoring more goalz)
Did anyone else catch the comment that.. I think it was Sylvester made when he said that Lindy was asked after the Chicago game about the execution of his team and he said it would be a good idea. I got a nice LOL about that one.
so.. yeah Carolina tomorrow. I hope we stomp them. I guess we'll see. Go Sabres!
I think that's about it.

WooohooO!
So, the Sabres won tonight against the Gross Badguy Rangers. Well done, boys! I did not see the game (since I'm in SUNNY, not snowy San Francisco!) so I have nothing to recap.
Roy scored again. He is really starting to turn on the points.. I like it! Keep it up my man.
Miller played tonight.. will he be in net tomorrow too? That's 3 games in 5 nights.. is he up to it? I guess we'll see. Then again, he's been pretty solid lately so maybe we should roll with it.. when you get a hot goalie sometimes it makes sense to go with him.
And that's about it. I won't be checkin tomorrow either so let me know what happens!

they did it!
OH YEAH baby the Sabres actually won a game that I went to! Huzzah! (I think I figured it out- the secret weapon is my nephew Christopher. See, I've been to 5 games this year, but the only 2 they've won are when he's with me. Hmm....)
It was a fun one. We were a bit late.. got in as the anthems were happening so we did not see the first goal but we heard it. The second one was a thing of beauty with Royzie taking the puck and sending the perfect pass to a streaking Staffy.. man that was a smart play. And then Roy's goal was nasty but great and Van iced it with a very patient, deliberate empty netter. WOOHOO!
The 2nd period was a little scary though, I gotta say. Spacho was killin me there with his (lack of) defence.. and when he Sekera got BURNED on the Spezza breakaway I was afraid all the Sabres were toast but they collected themselves admirably and managed the win.
A few things:
-How about that Matt Ellis guy? Pretty sick, eh?
-I really like Butler. He's pretty solid, especially for a rookie!
-Vanek looked like he had feet of cement, especially in the 2nd period. I dont know what was up with him but he did not want to move for half the game. It was pretty annoying to watch. He picked it up a bit late in the game but yeesh.. that was ugly.
-Miller was good when he needed to be but I really could (and I think he would agree) have done without that first Sens goal. That was brutal. I'm less inclined to be hard on him for the breakaway but he maybe coulda had it too. He did own in the 3rd so he's alright.
-Poor Petey! That was some jacked up madness with Ruutu. I mean seriously- it was obvious to everyone in the arena that he was bit but the ref (who was RIGHT there) said/did NOTHING?! And then Peters gets the unsportsmanlike? SAY WHAT?! Yeah. I am interested to see what happens on a league standpoint from that one. Man oh man.
-Goose was awesome tonight, as usual.
-I'm so happy to have Rivet back. He was being nasty there.. taking on everyone on the ice during the one shift.. that was great! He wanted to get his hands dirty but no one would dance. His toughness carries over to all the guys and it's something that we so desperately need. I love it!
-I love Derek Roy. (duh) Seriously though, he had a great game tonight. A goal, 2 assists.. he was in the play, didn't take any dumb penalties, played smart hockey. His faceoffs could maybe use a little work (seriously like.. take some classes my man!) but otherwise I was very happy with his game. And I'm not just saying that cuz I like him.
-I wasn't feelin Kotalik. It seemed like every time a Sabre made a boneheaded play it was him. I don't know what it is about him.. but he is bugging me lately. Yuck.
okay I really need some sleep but before I go, here are some pics from the Winter Classic II game and some from tonight-
Check it out!
and if you're on facebook, feel free to add me as a friend. :) Peace!

I know that guy!

He played! He was in the starting lineup even. Though the stats people were not on top of their game, they announced #89- Tyler Sloan as a scratch, then 2 seconds later announced him as a starter. LOL I knew that he was playing because we got there later than I wanted, but still at the end of warmups so I saw him out there. I got as close as I could to the ice, but not enough to yell at him and get his attention. I was a bit sad about that but it was still killer to see my guy playing in the show! :) I wore his Syrcause Crunch game worn jersey which got me some weird looks LOL and a comment from a Caps fan which was amusing. Underneath it I had on my Roy Sabres jersey LOL just in case Sloaner wasn't playing.
Oh and here's another fun picture for you- when I busted out my Christmas ornaments a couple of weeks ago, I was reminded of this one that I have from a few years back:
yes, that is an ornament decorated BY Tyler Sloan! I won it in a raffle done by the Dayton Bombers back in 2002. Pretty sweet, eh? I was the first hockey fan he met in the Dayton area- I drove him and another guy to pick up their rental car when they got sent down to Dayton from Syracuse on the first game of the season. That's right kids, a guy who is currently playing in the NHL has been in my car! And he knows my name. Sweet, eh?
So the Sabres sucked out loud tonight. They were terrible. The passing was horrid, they weren't being physical (except Goose, and even he took a while to get going) and they played like they were asleep for the first period. It was awful.
I listened to the rants on the post-game show about how this team has no depth- that's not the problem. They have NO HEART. All those games they won a few years ago were not so much talent as EFFORT and WILL and HEART. They need to find that and then I think they will be winning and playing a lot better. I watched "Miracle" last night and it is a great movie.. I think some of Herb Brooks' lines could be applicable here: "You think you can win on talent alone? Gentlemen, you don't HAVE enough talent to win on talent alone." Or "I know there's more to you, a whole other level that for some reason you don't want to go to."
What happened to those guys? They are the same people.. they just don't want to work hard right now. Like Lindy said, it has to come from them. I just hope they find it, and soon because this is painful and embarassing to watch.
I'm going to the Winter Classic II on Thursday and leaving for Chicago early tomorrow so I may be out of touch for a few. I'll post back when I can and I'm sure I'll have a full review and pics of the GAME for y'all to see. Hope everybody has a safe, fun and Happy New Year! :)

Sabres are sweeet
okay guys. So one more game I missed (I was checkin Katebits and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (which was excellent, by the way).. but I see that the Sabres won again!
That's twice now we've beaten the Devils. I am going to Wednesday's game and I really hope that 3rd time is a charm and they throw in another win for me!
Vanek is bustin still. 24 goals? THAT is supreme. Royzie has 9 goals and 25 pts so that's not too terrible either. :) He's starting to pick it up finally.
And the boys have squeaked into 8th place in the conference, which means we'd be in the playoffs. WOOO! Keep movin on up.
The next game is Wednesday. that's a long time in between, but I think they can do it!
Enough rambles for the moment. The play was fantastic, by the way and I will be around on my blog a little more often now since I don't have rehearsal all the time.
see y'all lata.

wooooooo
Sabres won again.
I saw no game. Again.
But my life is super happy right now so carry on boys, carry on.
And that cute guy I mentioned last week that was going to come over for a game? Never happened due to some scheduling conflicts.. but he might be attending my 2nd row game with me next week! Keep your fingers crossed for me but WHEE!
Good job Vanek. You da man.
Pommers- way to hook it up with a shortie and 3 points. My fantasy team loves the you.
Royzie- how are you a -1? Oh well you did get an assist so that's something. We're good.
And that's about it. Later peeps.

Pseudo-live blog
There are about 9 mins left in the game.. and the Sabres are up 4-3. WOOOO this game has been a little wild, what I've seen of it (I tuned in during the 2nd before the goals were scored..) It's been kinda up and down but at least they are doing SOMETHING. Lots of energy and action which has definitely been missing in some games lately.
And holy moley that Roy goal was amazing. And I particularly loved Gerbe hugging him. Teehee Gerbe is SOOOOOO tiny!
things are getting interesting.. Mair is getting speared in front of the linesmen and then one of them gets taken out.? Say whaaaaat?
Oh and speaking of say whaaat- how about Yoyo and Lecavalier fighting? That was strange but Yoyo was totally getting the best of Vinny. Awesome.
um the McDonalds McCafe commercial is strange..
C'mon guys.. 3.5 minutes left. Let's get another one, eh?
I love the "Let's Go Buffalo" chant I can HEAR! :)
(eeks thank goodness for autosave, because I kinda just accidentally deleted everything on the screen?)
WOOOOHOO Sabres win Sabres win! Yay! :) And they are going to interview Royzie in the post game. Huzzah! MMhhmm and wouldn't ya know, he got the memo- he's a bit scruffier than usual (at least a 2 day beard rather than just stubble)... it WORKS Derek, it works!
Quote of the night:
"He's obviously smaller than me, which is tough to ask for, in this league.."
AWESOME!
And on that note.. goodnight Buffalo.
