hmm

Maybe I'm living in my own universe or maybe it's cuz my seats are so close and I'm easily distracted or maybe cuz I'm an optimist, but tonight was NOT the worst Sabres game I've ever been to. (see December 30, 2008 and December 7, 2009 for examples) It was far from the best, but I wasn't as bored/bothered/sickened/disgusted/etc as the general population seems to be. It was a bit sloppy, especially in the first period. The boys just didn't seem to be synced up very well, but there were some moments of decency. Miller owned everybody tonight and we have to remember we were playing the Devils- who (even though they've been crappy thus far this season) are typically a very good defensive team- and Marty Brodeur is a stud. I heard on the post-game that the Devils blocked 18 shots. I don't doubt it.

So yeah.. not the worst game, not the best either. Vanek MUST be better. Connolly is a lazy piece of shit. SOMEONE needed to score a goal (not looking at you, Ilya). Eh.. I wish they had won, but I'm not hitting the panic button yet. The season is young and the boys have a lot of potential to be decent this year.

but what is up with Myers? He's so hesitant this year.. like he's afraid he's going to make a mistake, so he doesn't know what to do with the puck. I don't like this Myers, I want the old one back! :(

nothing to say

I feel like I should post about THE HIT and Monday's game in general, but I don't have much to say. I missed the game- took my nephews to Scouts- but saw the hit on the replay and it was ugly. Not intention to injure, but ugly and unnecessary and caused injury anyway. Tough call on that one but I'm glad he got a suspension. Should it have been more games? Probably. But at least they did something. Now the Sabres have to move on (AND PLAY CLEAN, HARD HOCKEY ON SATURDAY- NO BERTUZZI-LIKE RETRIBUTION BOYS!).

Poor Pommers. It sounds like he will be okay- we can hope so. Concussions are tricky things, so hopefully he will recover completely and get back to playing soon.

I'm going to tonight's game against the super strugglin Devils- so maybe the Sabres will win! I do like the Devils, but I want the Sabres to win. Although, in typical Buffalo fashion, the Devils will probably have their comeback game and play perfectly and the Sabres will roll over and die or try but get nowhere. Ugh. We'll see. It should at least be fun. :)

And how about Derek Roy? I know I've been a Roy apologist for pretty much my whole time as a Sabres fan.. but he's finally playing like the player we all KNOW he can be. Hopefully he will keep it up. The Sabres need his goals (since that POS Connolly is still around and playing terribly, and Vanek can't get out of his own way right now). I love seeing Roy play solid, goal-scoring hockey. Keep it up, my man! :)

Let's Go Buffalo!

WOOOOT!

I'm going to the Devils-Rangers game tonight in NJ with my sis! :)

We were hoping they would be at MSG tonight just to add another arena to our collection, but the Rock is an incredibly fun place for hockey so no worries there. :)

YAY hockey!

About that time, eh chap?

Wow I have been a super slacker as far as my little blog goes. Many apologizes to my (one) faithful reader(s).. I have been busy-- going to hockey games!

Okay well not that busy I guess. I have only been to 3 games since my last post and it's been something like 3 weeks so that's really no excuse. I'm just lame. I will try to be better, and I'm sure the advent of the playoffs and hockeyeverynight!, I will be posting more. :)

So let me tell you where I've been. I went to the Sabres/Caps game on the 3rd and it was strugglin. Not the worst game I've seen but certainly not the best. The company was good so I guess that was something, and I did get to see that slammin hit that Kaleta had on Ovie as it happened.. but yeah, rough night for the boys in Blue.

The Sabres seem to have many nights like that lately. Ah well, it happens. We should still at least make the playoffs and that is a VERY GOOD thing. I just hope they keep it together enough to make a decent run into the playoffs instead of limping in. But there is still some hockey to be played before we can discuss that in earnest so I'll leave it there for now.

Moving on, time to tell you about my hockey pilgrimage to "The Rawk", as my friends the The Ookies often refer to the Prudential Center in NJ. I left last Friday from Buffalo on the train. (love me some Amtrak, no security lines, no getting there a thousand hours early, NO MOTIONSICKNESS! soooo much better than flying, imho) and hit Newark at about 5:30. I met up with my sis, who had flown in from Louisiana and we walked from our hotel to the Arena. It's a REALLY nice place. All Devils, all the time. The Stanley Cup banners-

are awesome, of course, and there is lots of Devils-themed artwork and stuff all around the place. The score- (3-1) Devils over the Penguins- was the best part!

The game was great fun. If you ever go to NJ, get your tickets up in section 208/209, the ppl there are GREAT! They were loud and rowdy, I felt like I was at some crazy minor-league game. They were chanting all night (and even let me start some Let's Go Devils!-- I was a little scared to do it since I wasn't a regular, but they seemed to think it was cool. yay me!)

Proof of attendance- like my Devil horns? They light up! :)

And then on Saturday, we ventured onto Long Island for a Devils/Isles game. We figured since we were that close.. we'd probably never get a better chance to go there.. and who knows how much longer the Islanders will be around (sadly).. and they were playing the Devils so it was all good.

Their arena is SMALL! I felt like it was a minor league rink. And the parking (right next to the place) was only $7!!! What a deal. :) We sat up in the 300 level but it felt so close, compared to any other rink I've been to. Wild. There were lots of Devils fans and we got some serious cheering going on, but it wasn't working for the boys, since they lost. The defence wasn't so great, and Marty was sitting this one out. The Islanders were just the better team, but we had a great time. The guy sitting next to me was exactly the kind of person I was expecting to see at an Islanders game. He was a lot of fun to talk to. :)

-Center Ice before the game-- it feels so close, even though we're like 6 rows from the top..

-Proof of attendance. Note the Devil horns again- I actually bought them with intent to wear them on Saturday- hehehe.. got lots of comments, most of them good, even from NYI fans. :) Also note the Stanley Cup banners off to the right. As bad as the Isles are at the moment, they have some decent history.

The full album can be seen on Facebook-- if you're so inclined.. **or will be eventually if I can ever get them to upload!**(I think you have to be my friend to see them, but please, if we aren't yet friends on facebook, feel free to change that!!) :)

And now my grand total of cities visited for hockey is...

stuff that rocks

Assuming anyone still reads this after my confession the other night, I want to share some fun things with you!

Of course, most of y'all have probably already seen/heard this, but the San Jose guys doing an impression of RJ was too great not to share:

Also, this fantastic discourse on why the Devils are amazing is also too great not to share- The Devils Own. It's from this blog i just found- The Two-Line Pass Blog- but for all I know, y'all have been reading that for years. If you haven't, you should. If you have, why didn't you share it with me? LOL

Enjoy. I may try to watch the Canucks game tonigh, because I rather enjoy them, but only time will tell if I'm feeling in the mood. ;)

There is some more hockey on my tv

YAY I'm watching the Devils and Rangers. It's a decent game.. I do love the Devils so it's nice to see them on tv, even though the Rangers are winning at the moment. It's almost the end of the 2nd period.

So, while I take in this scene, I'll post some randomness.

I hope y'all don't think that since I've been gushing over Sloaner so much during the preseason, I have forgotten about my Sabres. I still love them of course and I'm super happy that hockey is back, but I am just excited about my boy. I mean, I saw his first pro game, ya know? So now that he's in the big leagues, I just can't help but get all excited for him! (and maybe next time he'll LOOK at me during warmups LOL)

Can I just say that the commercials for the powermat wireless charger are *bleeping* obnoxious? I mean, if you can't promote your product without (implied) profanity, it can't really be that bleeping good then, can it? Whatever.

So anyway, back to the Sabres. I watched Saturday's game while reading everyone's opinions of Saturday's game.. on Sunday. So I dunno.. I think the game was decent. I liked the feistiness the boys were showing, and the willingness to step up for each other and lay down some smack, though there were no actual fights. I did LOL when Pommer was grabbing Hal Gill. Good effort! ;)

They clearly need some more goals, (duh) and where was Vanek?, but overall, I think it was a decent start to the year. Remember that hockey is 82 games, and yes, each game and each point counts, and there is much to improve on, but I was good with what I saw.

I'm going to Thursday's game, so hopefully I'll have some comments with a little more depth to them.

I could do without the Celino and Barnes commericals with Derek Roy. EWW. I mean, great on ya, Derek, for donating money to the Diabetes Foundation or whatever exactly it is, but why them? Yick.

Side note, (one of) my dream job is an NHL analyst.

Side note #2-Why is Engblom not wearing any socks? I'm scared.

Oh and may I please just say that Michael Del Zotto is really good looking? Because he IS. He's about a zillion years too young for me (cuz I'm an ancient old hag at 28, LOL) but I can look, eh?

EWW remind me that I don't like Chris Pronger cuz he's a punk and he plays nasty and mean. (but dammit, he's got that gap-toothed smile that makes me melt anywhere else.) I'm just not allowed to see him off the ice because then I forget that I.DON'T.LIKE.HIM and think.. "Ooh he's cute...WAIT EWW That's Pronger!! GROSSSSSSS!"

Sorry, feeling a bit on the girly side. I don't try to hide that I look at players beyond their hockey stats. It is just a way of life. Doesn't mean I know anything less about hockey, but some things just need to be discussed. LOL

I want pizza! But we have no pizza at my home so I guess that's not going to happen.

I slightly love the NHL2K10 commercial with Ryan Kesler. :) He's awesome. Speaking of commercials, I think the dude from the freeCreditreport.com ones is totally cute. LOL does that make me lame? Probably but there.. I said it. Haha

Whoa Rangers Asst Coach Mike Sullivan is kinda scary. He was reaming his boys a new one after that boarding penalty in the 3rd.

C'mon Devils!! Y'all have a power play, do something with it!

Is it me, or is it totally weird to see Rob Neidermayer playing for the Devils?

Really, even on VS, we have to point out that the Hobey Baker is the 'Heisman of Hockey'? WE KNOW THAT! Speaking of Hobey, I really need to read some more books about him.. the guy was pretty fascinating!

UUUUGHH the Devils lost. :(

C'est tout.

appropos of nothing

I don't have much of an update. I will admit to being a bit of a slacker on the finals this year. It's not that I don't care, because I do- and I like the Red Wings but my actual life has taken a turn for the busy so I've had less time to devote to hockey lately. Now, if it were the Sabres, I'd MAKE the time, but since it's the Red Wings and I don't care about them quite as much, they tend to fall by the wayside a little.

Game 5 was great. Game 6, not so much if you're the Wings. But game 7s are fun. I remember the last game 7 of significance for me- that would be back in 2003- when it was the Devils. Oh man my roomie and I had a good time with that. It was finals week of our senior year of college and we were a bit stir-crazy, to say the least. We made a Devils food cake, decorated some army men to look like Devils players (numbers, names et al) and sent them on a "duck hunt." Then we made a sick Devils banner out of an old sheet and some (sadly, washable so I had to take it inside when it rained) paint to hang off our balcony. I bought some Devils horns and wore them all night and to the grocery store later when they won. It was grand. My only issue was with Marty (or any of the Devs) NOT winning the Conn Smythe. The worst injustice ever in the history of hockey as I know it. I'm still seething.

Meanwhile, that was a great night, and the outcome was most desirable. I only hope that tomorrow is much of the same. :) Let's Go Red Wings!

Oh and here are some pics of the Devils party-

Blimey

Well that was an interesting game. They really made it fun at the end. I have only a few thoughts on the game.

Settle down Timmy, Miller actually tripped Parise, which is while he fell. Oh, that. I appreciate you sticking up for your goalie, but relax a little. It looked like his head was going to explode.. that can't be healthy.

I effing LOVE Marty Brodeur. This is not news, nor is it a secret at all. I don't even feel bad about it because I've liked Marty for a long time now- much longer than I've been a Sabres fan. I did feel a bit weird wearing my Marty's Better shirt but that was only for warmups, I was cheering for the Sabres all night, had my jersey on and everything.

I felt like such a nerd during warmups.. I was all spazzy and **EEEEEE* Marty!!! Langenbrunner!! David *drool* Clarkson!! Pariseeeeee!!!! Madden!!! Shanny!! It was great. Heeeheee.

Mike Mottau kept giving me stares and smirks.. every time he skated past during warmups. It was weird. He's kinda cute though.

David Clarkson is GORGEOUS. I know this is well documented, but pictures and videos do not do him justice- the guy is just... dreamy. Wow. Yeah I was melting every time he skated past. It was ridiculous.

And that is about that. I think the Sabres are still not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs but the chances get slimmer and slimmer. However, if they continue to play like they did for the 3rd period tonight then at least we will enjoy the rest of the season, and maybe steal a couple of games.

rollin rollin rollin

Marty gets shutout #100

What else is there to say about him? Comes back from a pretty rough injury that cost him 4 months- gets 3 wins and 2 shutouts right away? That's STELLAR.

Man I've missed him. I think I really have to guy buy some tickets for the April 4th game when the Devils come back to Buffalo, just to see my Marty. That's what was *supposed to happen* in December with my birthday tickets..but someone had to be injured..

I do have money from my tax refund.. Hmmmm... time for a visit to stubhub, methinks. :)

Word

Guess who is going to see the Sabres and the Devils on December 17 IN THE 2nd ROW?

ME!

My parents gave me tickets for my birthday, and they came in today. They didn't tell me what I was getting (my bday was a month ago) just that I would get it in October, but October came early.

WOOHOOO! I've never been anywhere near that close for an NHL game, and this is my 2 favorite teams.

YAY! :):)

Just wanted to share the good fortune with folks who can appreciate it.

Tomorrow it's off to Ohio for pre-season hockey- Blue Jackets and Predators. Fun fun fun !

Good Job Marty!

Yaaaaaaaay Waaahooo John Madden! The Devils win it in OT and now the series is 2-1. Much better. And I got to watch most of the game. Double wahoo! :) I also took in part of the Caps/Flyers game- meh on the outcome, but good for Biron since he's on my fantasy team!

I flipped back and forth between CBC and VS so I saw some snippets of the Habs/B's game. Missed the game winner though. Bleh, I don't like Boston! But the game was pretty interesting. Those Montreal fans are NUTS! And the Garden was seriously loud. Good job fans.

That's it for me for today. I hope to watch some of the Wings action tomorrow- and maybe even the Wild/Avs or the Penguins or whatever is on. but I'm afraid I'll miss the Devs on Tuesday (if I go see Collective Soul, which I am still planning to do) but maybe I'll DVR it. Now it won't be elimination at least! Phew!

Yay Playoff hockey!

and seriously, has anyone noticed how Ovie sprouted a serious beard overnight? Madness!

Day 2

Not much hockey news today. The Sabres are down a couple of D-men., which could get VERY bad since we're already short a few guys and there is just not much talent in the system.. but maybe someone will step up. And I think Tallinder should be back soon so that can't hurt. Yeesh.

I turned on the Devils/Canadiens for a few mins earlier, but it was on (gaghurl) VS and I have a hard time dealing with that, especially when I'm not staring at the tv (play by play? What's that?) plus the Devils were losing 3-0 at the time so I cut my losses when my nephew asked to watch MONK and just gave up on the idea. Ouch- the final was 4-0 so I didn't miss much.

One day I'll get into a post on all the reasons I despise VS but for tonight I just don't have the energy. I'm out.
