it's about that time.. again

Wow guys, I thought this up on Friday and here it is, Wednesday already. I'm glad it came to me on Friday cuz I've been kinda busy since then so it was good not to have to think one up at the last minute. (as usual LOL)

So here we go.. This week's SAB:

-Actor James Roday (Shawn Spencer from USA's Psych, a great show)

AND

-Sabre Derek Roy

What do you think? I can certainly see it. I was watching Psych for the first time last Friday and the whole time I was like.. geeez this dude looks like Royzie. So there ya have it. :)

message limit reached

My goodness but the Sabres have been busy! I keep getting text messages from them. LOL

TODAY it was that Miller has signed a 5 year extension! WOOOOHOOOO!

This is good. Very Very good. The Sabres are being smart and making people very happy.

YAY!

ANd that's really all, except that I have found my Hockey SAB for next week already- and it's Derek Roy! :)

what about this?

I have an idea for a hockey song in my head. It needs work, but the thought is "I Love Derek Roy" to the tune of "I Love Rock and Roll" of course. It's been floating in the ole noggin for a while now but I think it's almost ready to be written. Of course it will be somewhat my point of view, somewhat the obsessed puckbunny's point of view.. who knows?

Just wanted to throw that out there in case y'all had any thoughts.

Well?

little bit o'this and that

We have SABRENEWS! :) Yesterday the blue and gold re-signed Danny Paille to a 2-year contract. Well done, fellas, well done. :) I like Mr. Pie-YAY and I'm happy that he'll be back. He was one of the few bright spots in a rather dismal second half last season. and it seemed like the worse everybody else was, the better he responded. And he's still quite young so he should only get better. YAY!

AND the nhl released the schedule for the upcoming season today. The Sabres open on October 10 against the Canadiens. Oooh I want to go- not like that will happen but maybe somebody will come with me to the Party in the Plaza?!

Also, HeatherB pointed out this little challenge going on at sportsquee- name your Top 10 Squee-worthy NHL-ers. Here's the lowdown- To promote and further the intellectual discourse concerning hot bitches in the NHL, in response to this post by SportSquee's favorite 25 year-old Hawaiian organ donor, McBloggin himself, Greg Wyshynski, we asked our faithful readers to submit their personal list of Top Ten Hottest Hockey Players for public consumption and possible humiliation. The rules are that the players are on regular NHL duty, and a reason is given for why the number one is the number one. * I have a small disclaimer for my list. My numero uno for all time is Pavel Bure. No other hockey player can even compare. Sadly, he is not an active player, as he was forced to retire (at the ripe old age of 34) 3 years ago due to re-curring injuries. He still holds the #1 spot in goal scoring, looks, skill and anything else that anyone could judge a hockey player on (goalies are the exception) but as he is ineligible for this list, I will have to be brave and move on. I will do my best.*

So here is my list. (with explanations)
1. Derek Roy- (BUFFALO) Yes, I know- how cliche', a Sabres fan thinking Derek Roy is hot. Well, sorry, he IS! LOL He's a total pretty-boy.. but he's not always a pretty boy. He can get down and dirty when he wants to (I'm talking on the ice, people, get your minds out of the gutter!!) He's turning into a real goal scorer, but is getting better defensively as well so he's a pretty great player. ANd he just makes me swoon. He's got that animal magnetism or something. I dunno but I'd jump his bones.

2. Ray Whitney-(CAROLINA) He is older than me! Big points there. He just has that clean-cut hotness about him that is undeniable. ANd he seems like a decent human being from what I've read. I've liked him since he played in Florida with Bure and was actually happy that he (and Brett Hedican) won the Cup, even if it was for Carolina. I briefly met Ray at a pre-season game back in 2000, and he was really cool. And smokin hot.

3. Chris Osgood- (DETROIT) Ahh, I have liked Osgood for many a year. He still has his boyish good looks of when he first joined the league back in 1994! He's a great (underrated) goalie and even if he's more 'cute' than HOT, he still makes the cut because I love him.

4. Jarome Iglina (CALGARY)- Jarome has the most beautiful skin I've ever seen. ANd his smile lights up the world. He's beautiful and also seems like a genuine and decent human being. That's always worth big points with me!

5. Henrik Zetterberg- (DETROIT) Oh Z. he's got it all- the scoring touch, the big body that he's not afraid to throw around, the sexy accent, long hair, short hair,- the sexiest playoff beard I've seen in ages- oh and a Stanley CUp and Conn Smythe trophy too. Damn, sign me up! And he's got that gap-toothed smile which only adds to the rough-and touble appearance with the beard and the hair and it makes me melt.

6. Antoine Vermette (OTTAWA) He's pretty much the only good thing about the Sens. This man is gorgeous. He's got those dark good looks and if you ever wondered what he wears under the jersey- Wonder No more. Along with that photo is a really sweet article which proves that he is a really great person too. Aww.

7. Rusty Klesla- (COLUMBUS) I've also met Rusty, a few years back in Columbus for a 4th of July parade the blue jackets were doing. (I met Rick Nash too, before he ever played a game) Rusty was being coy and pretending he didn't understand English- when it suited his purposes (like when they ttold the guys to stop throwing candy LOL) anyway he's got an adorable smile and gorgeous eyes.

8. Willie Mitchell- (VANCOUVER) I know zip about this guy (that's what happens when you never play anyone in the west!) but he is SMOKIN and that is enough. He's just pretty. (I have heard that he's a good player, but that isn't really the issue here, is it? LOL)

9. David Clarkson- (NEW JERSEY)- I don't know much about Clarkson either, except that he plays for the Devils (big points there!) and that he's teh hotness. He was pointed out to me during the All-Star festivities by the folks at IPB and they were right- he's quite lovely and that's all you really need to know. He seems to be a bit of a badass, always a good quality as well.

10. Jose Theodore (COLORADO)- Ew, I hate the Avs but I like Jose. He's got lovely hair and extremely intense eyes. He looks creepyhot behind the goalie mask and GQhot in a suit and tie. I like it all.

BONUS: Hottest Minor Leaguers-
I've met (and gotten to know) quite a few minor league hockey players so I'll include a special segment for the AHL and ECHL just for fun.

Hottest Man in the AHL- Tyler Sloan (HERSHEY) *look him up* Sloaner has really pretty blue eyes, a great smile and an amazing accent (he's from Calgary) He's tall and broad-shouldered and looks really good in a pair of dress slacks, I must say. ;) He also wears glasses sometimes, which is HOT! Oh and he's a really nice guy.

Hottest Man in the ECHL- Travis Rycroft (UTAH) You've already seen pictures of him so you know I'm not making it up. He's dreamy. And Oh.MY.GOSH I saw him one day wearing nothing but tight tight tight hockey underwear and then he wanted to have a conversation with me and I was like guh..uh.. right. If you catch my drift. It was pretty fine. He's great. Just an all around great (and damn great looking) guy.

So there you have it.

And today's shoutout- *it's kind of a sporadic thing I guess* goes to Pentiction, BC- (which is the home of Travis Rycroft) Since Rykes gets more searches than even Derek Roy and Derek Roy girlfriend, and the visitors from Pentiction spend more time than anyone else (avg of 8 mintues per visit) on the site, they deserve some recognition. So hello, way over there! ;)

And I think that about wraps it up. For now.

something about that hair..

Here's this week's Hockey Separated at Birth:

Mike Commodore of the Sens
AND

The ever-scary, Sweatin to the Oldies, Richard Simmons.

Commodore is much better looking and much less freaky, but there is definetly some resemblance there, in the hair if nothing else. It was hard to find a pic of Simmons that didn't look absurd, so you get what you get.

What do you think?

I am going to apply for this job with the Chicago Wolves (AHL):
The Chicago Wolves are seeking an intern, preferably with a journalism and/or media relations background, to assist in all facets of the team’s media relations endeavors. This individual will work ALL regular-season road games and various home game dates as necessary, as well as assist with daily operations in the business office. Duties include writing and editing game stories on deadline, calling local media during and after games with score updates and assisting in the production of game-day materials. This is a full-time, paid internship.

Requirements:
Journalism experience and knowledge of AP Style – strong writing skills are a must.
Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Quark is preferable but not required.
Must provide own transportation - work will be conducted at the business office in Glenview, the practice facility in Hoffman Estates and the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.
Knowledge of the sport of hockey is a plus.
Must have a college diploma or be currently enrolled in an accredited university.

It calls itself an intership, but it is PAID and full-time and they even are asking for ppl with college Degrees- not just students! I have to at least try. if it gets that far, then I'll see what their terms are and whether or not it makes sense. It would be a fun job! :)

I have my stuff all ready to go, will be faxing it (no e-mails or phone calls please) tomorrow when I go to the office. Word.

an idea

I think that every day I should have a shout-out to someone from somewhere I have spotted on Google analytics that doesn't leave a comment!

yesterday's was Saskatoon. (whose visit was more than a month ago now)

Today it shall be- Garden City, Idaho! Hello in Garden City. I'm not entirely sure where that is. I spent very little time in the great potato state, and all the time I spent there was driving en route to Yellowstone but it was a pretty place. I'd like to visit more someday.

Next time you come to my site, leave a note! Tell me what you liked, didn't like, etc. What brought you here? I like to know these things. Don't be shy. :)

And that's all for today, folks.

it's a bit silly

I've been wanting to do this one for ages. I had a hard time finding a picture that properly illustrates this week's SAB but I tried my best. I have thought for quite a while now that Mike Babcock looks like a bird of prey, especially in profile. He's got those beady little eyes and it's kinda creepy.

Don't just take my word for it, let me illustrate:

Coach Babcock

an un-identified raptor- looks a bit like a hawk to me.

my poor little hockey blog

Ahh hello there again my friends. Special shout to you out in Saskatoon! Whoever you are, I enjoyed your visit. Next time leave a comment, eh?!

I love Google Analytics. Maybe I'll bust an analytics post soon. Not tonight though. That takes too much mental awareness and I'm tired!!

I just thought I should blog a little. My poor hockey place feels so left out and sad. It's been almost a week since my last post. (though it was a double) I've just been really busy with work and there hasn't been a whole lot of hockey news to share.

One of these days (weeks? Months?) I'm going to bust some hockey songs. I have some already written that I could just share with y'all, and I have a few germs of others that maybe I can flesh out and make into whole songs for your entertainment pleasure. Did that make any sense?

My brain feels quite fried so maybe I should be going. What a lovely post about NOTHING! I'm pretty good at that. I really just wrote this so I could get a shout out to the 'Toon. I know that's where my peeps are. I've been told I would fit in there. Who knows? I've certainly never been to anywhere in Western Canada, least of all, Saskatoon. But it's definetly on my list of places to visit. I hear it's a pretty bustin place.

Enough silliness and lack of hockey talk. At least tomrorow you'll get a Separated at Birth. Woooo!

G'night.

I'm back

I just read some stuff on Sabres.com, including an interview with Nathan Gerbe. And now he and I are totally BFF with this one comment:

Who was your favorite player growing up?

"I would say Brian Gionta or Pavel Bure."

Dude, you just won my heart! <3333

Can we get married?

;)

finally found it

I was agonizing over this week's Hockey SAB all day.. what would I choose? Who could it be? Well I found one that's pretty decent. I have to be careful, since I set myself up to do this once a week, I really need to stay on it but somehow I never seem to think about it until the day of. Ugh. But it's all good. So far I haven't had a week when I couldn't think of any!

Without futher ado- and before my internet randomly dies again- here is this week's hockey SAB"

Actor Cary Elwes

AND

Red Wings defenceman extraordinaire, Nicklas Lidstrom.

Separated at Birth? You be the judge.

I think it's a pretty good match. Something in the smile just does it.

I have a glimmer of an idea for next week. Stay tuned.. :)

Sabre News!

Whoa hold the press, there is SabreNews in the offseason?! There is. And it's black UFA Day too, but the boys seem t have come out ahead this time. They re-upped Gaustad for 4 years- SMART MOVE- he's a tough, solid player who has improved each year. He's still young, with room to grow, and the fans love him! Plus he's really great in the community- can't let a fella like that go. Well done.

Then they picked up Patrick Lalime for the backup goalie- here's his info, straight from my Sabres Insider email:
Lalime (2/7/1974, 6'3", 189 lbs.) spent the 2007-08 season with the Chicago Blackhawks, finishing with a record of 16-12-2, one shutout and 2.82 GAA.

Lalime is a veteran of nine NHL seasons, compiling a record of 191-148-32-11 and a 2.53 GAA with Pittsburgh, Ottawa, St. Louis and Chicago. He has also posted 35 career shutouts, including 27 between 2000-04.

Lalime was named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team in 1996-97 with Pittsburgh. During that season he set the NHL record for longest unbeaten streak by a rookie goaltender to start his career, going 14-0-2.

Not too shabby, especially as a #2 guy. he should be able to hold the fort when Miller needs a break. Good pick-up.

The Blackhawks were busy, that should make my Chicago friends happy. Soupy is gone to Chi-town but they could probaly use him. At least he's not here. LOL

So there it is. Free Agent Day.

Happy Canada Day too to all the folks who read from the Great White North- and I know you are there, since I can see you on my google analytics, even if you don't comment!
