Almost but not quite

So... I acutally watched most of the Bills game tonight. I still don't really care about football, but occasionally it can be decent. My sis is visiting and she likes football so it was on and I was being social. (and really, I should be a football fan by default. My parents and sibs (minus Quin, who doesnt really care about sports at all) love football, as does most of my extended fam.) But I just haven't felt the draw to football that I have towards hockey.

However, I found myself actually caring about what happened to the Bills tonight. It was somewhat interesting. Painful, as the Bills are wont to be, but interesting. They seemed to be making such a huge deal about how heartbreaking it was, but let's be honest with ourselves- it's THE BILLS. This is how they roll. They make you think that this time they'll really do it. They have a few great drives, make a statement, then forget how to play football for 3 minutes and then it's over. Just like our beloved Sabres. It is BUFFALO. It happens. We should be used to it now. It's really probably more of a surprise when they manage to win.

So with that in mind, it was still sad that they couldn't get it done. There were some very good things about tonight, but I won't pretend to know enough about football to talk about them. I have a basic understanding of the game, and can usually tell if something is good or bad, but the nuances are somewhat lost on me because I don't care enough to learn.

So, I will say some things of a completely superficial nature:
-I liked the Patriots throwback uniforms a lot better than their usual ones.
- The referee uniforms are a bit much though. LOL
-Could the announcers please let go of Tom Brady's junk? They were up in his piece all damn night and I was so grossed out of it. Please NOTE: Tom Brady is NOT the only athlete to ever have major knee surgery. Get. Over. It.
-Moving on.. Trent Edwards is cute and so clean-cut looking. I have no idea if he's a decent person, or if he even has any personality, but I'm okay with him being a "face" of my city.
-Ditto that for Paul Pozluszny- he's just awesome. But he seriously needs a haircut.
-I hate the "crunch" of football players colliding. For some reason, the sound of hockey players crashing into one another doesn't bother me. It's similar but not the same and the football sound is so much more cringe-inducing for some reason.

That's all of the non-hockey observations I have for now.

Hockey in 3 days!!! perhaps I shall write a happy it's almost hockey time post soon but it's not ready yet. My brother in law has season tickets and he got them today. WOOO! :) They look really cool. I was excited to see that the Devils, Caps and Blackhawks all come to visit on the same week in December. That will be an interesting week for teams that I like other than the Sabres. Maybe I'll get to see a few- probably the Devs at least. I'd really like to see the Patrick Sharp- er I mean Blackhawks.. but we'll see what happens.

Today is Sidney Crosby's Birthday!

I hope you all celebrate by watching the Winter Classic (complete with commentary every time Sid took a breath on the bench) and the Stanley Cup Finals from last year and this year.

I don't know what I'm doing, but there is pizza tonight with my friends (a few of whom watched the Winter Classic with me when we learned about just how Sid invented hockey, et al) so there may be some silliness involved.

I was wandering around my Livejournal, where I keep my personal life and try not to bore my friends with hockey ranting- when I found this gem from January of 2007:

And I'm totally in love with Jason Pominville. He's by far my favorite Sabre. :) He scores lots of goals and that's hot. He has the weirdest accent though, I heard him on a commercial and I can't place it at all. *looks him up* Ah-ha he's from Quebec, I thought so! And I still like Derek Roy too. He's feisty and that's fun. Yay hockey!

Classic. I do love Pommers, he's probably my #2 man, but Royzie has taken over the #1 spot and refuses to back down. But it's cool cuz Pommers is chill like that.

Just thought I'd share. And I have a great idea for a SAB (almost as good as this week's) but it will have to wait until after I go to Ohio at the end of the month. Trust me though, this one is gonna be awesome.

I really should be sleeping now so I'm out of here.

what about this?

I have an idea for a hockey song in my head. It needs work, but the thought is "I Love Derek Roy" to the tune of "I Love Rock and Roll" of course. It's been floating in the ole noggin for a while now but I think it's almost ready to be written. Of course it will be somewhat my point of view, somewhat the obsessed puckbunny's point of view.. who knows?

Just wanted to throw that out there in case y'all had any thoughts.

So I didn't do a running commentary last night, too bad. That would have been an interesting one. Oh well, I really want to sum it up with this picture of Mike Millbury:

Tell me that pic isn't hilarious! We paused the tv, and it just happned to be at that flattering moment for Mike. I LOL'ed for about 10 minutes after seeing that. So I had to take a pic and share the hilarity.

Definetly the worst part about triple OT was having to listen to the morons in the studio for that many more times. Yeesh. I miss the good ole days of Barry Melrose. He was a windbag, but at least he was entertaining. Milbury and that other guy are just lame. and don't get me going on Pierre MacGuire... he drives me craZy.
I don't want to talk about the goalie interference bullshit calls last night. That was so unreal. I'm just glad the Wings were able to contain the power play. But seriously, those were some of the worst calls (especially for overtime in the FINALS!) I have ever seen and I've been watching hockey for 14 years. And no, I'm not whining about the high sticking call, that one was legit. Unfortunate for the Wings (though good for those of us who had to get some sleep LOL) but a good call.

Tomorrow should be fun. We're going to Columbus to watch with my sis Brett and whoever she invites over. It will involve Donatos pizza- OMGYUM and beer and yay hockey! And it will hopefully involve some bustin celebration time! :)

Is it time for the conference finals yet? All that hockey that I was skipping when it was on, and now I'm practically dying for a game here! I'm such a slacker but now I want it back. And I forgot (again) to change my fantasy team so I'm totally losing there I'm sure. Oh well.

Skeletor (from He-Man) and Adam Oates (formerly of the Bruins, Capitals and Ducks for sure and possibly other teams as well) He looked a lot more like Skeletor when he was playing, you'll have to take my word for it since I can't find a good picture, but I can still see it a bit, int he jawline and the cheekbones. non?

ANd Part Deux: *yes, I know I switched from Spanish to French, sue me!*

Doug Funnie from the brilliant and sadly ended Nickelodeon show Doug and Buffalo's own Timmy Connolly. It's a bit of a stretch, but once in my head I could not get it out. What do you think?

Separated at Birth?

Now that you are all done lolzing we can move on. I read today that Derek ROy owns a boat. And that his boat is named "Love Potion no. 9" Are you KIDDING me dude? That's so corny that it's hysterical. I can't seem to get over it. He's hot but that is just silly. However, I would take a ride on him.. er I mean his boat, yeah that's it. Hate all you want, Royzie is one hot mofo. And if y'all dont want him, that's okay, more for me! ;)

I watched a coupla episodes of Making the Cut tonight. That show was awesome. It was a reality show on CBC back in 2004 (the dark year of no NHL hockey!) It featured Canadian hockey players who were vying for a chance to one of 6 players drafted by the 6 CDN nhl teams. The show was basically a 2-week training camp or sorts for the 68 guys chosen from over 4,000 that tried out in like 6 different cities across Canada. Those players were whittled down to a top.. 15 I think that had a Superskills competition for the draft. It was so fun to watch. Each episode was a day at camp and they had scrimmages and meetings and drills, the whole nine yards. Great show. I watched it when it was on, and taped most of them. I have those tapes, then it was released on dvd so I procured myself a copy. Several of those players went on to play in the ECHL and AHL, I even knew a guy from when he was in Dayton prior to the show, and met another one when he was in Utah for a while. ANyway it was a good way to pass some time tonight while I was exercising. I find that riding a bike or working the elliptical machine is SO much easier when watching any sort of hockey. Agree?
