coming coming soon
I am really distraught about Royzie. :( Obviously he's done for the season and the injury sounds pretty gross. I just hope he recovers completely and doesn't try to push it. But I will miss him!
And ugh.. I am so over this year's Winter Classic. I'm so annoyed (as I've said beforethat Sid and the Penguins get another turn. They could have given the game to someone else.. that would be fair! Share the wealth, NHL. Boo on that. I may watch some of the game (I'll be in Pitt for New Year's) but I don't care all that much. Go Caps. haha It will be cool if Sloaner gets to play though. He's back off the IR so I hope he'll get a shot. That would be awesome for him. Of course, this is all assuming the weather cooperates. We'll see, I guess.
That's pretty much what I have. I went to a Dayton Gems hockey game last night. They play in the Central Hockey League. It was a good time. I really do love minor league hockey- it has its own flair. The difference between these guys and the NHL is pretty extreme though. Hahaha. Bruce Boudreau's son plays for the Gems.. He's TINY! He's got some decent speed- but sometimes forgets where his teammates are. I doubt he'll ever make it to the show but he might get a shot at a higher league at some point.
Tomorrow is more hockey- the (defending Kelly Cup Champion) Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL this time. Should be a great time. :)

Derek Rooooooyyyy
I feel that I should give Royzie some love here. He's been the only consistent Sabre on the roster this year, and with 19pts (8 goals) in 18 games, not only is he heads and tails above the rest of his team (ya bunch of slackers), but he is 8th in League scoring. Sounds good to me.
Perhaps, more importantly, he has played hard all season, something that cannot be said for all members of the Sabres. I LIKE that. That is why I started to like Derek Roy in the first place. I remember when he was first getting call-ups from Rochester back in 2003-04.. I vividly remember driving home one night after working a Niagara game and hearing RJ go on about how solid and tough and scrappy this kid was. And I liked him instantly. Then he started playing for the Sabres full-time and got a little lazy and people started hatin on him but I knew he could still be sweet- when he wanted to..
Yeah yeah you've heard it all here before. I just wanted to re-iterate that I have loved Royzie for a long time now and I never really gave up on him. I may have kicked him out a few times and threatened to change the locks on him, and occasionally cheat on him with Patrick Sharp or Steve Montador, but when the day is done, he's still my boy.
So I say, good on ya, Royzie. Keep it up, boyo. The Sabres NEED you and I like the fact that the player that I like most is playing like we all know he can. :) And if the rest of those hosers can get on it, we'd be in better shape.
Yup. That's all I've got. I haven't actually watched a Sabres game since..... October 16 I think. That's kind of pathetic but life has been on fast-forward for a while now. I'm GOING to the game tomorrow- (I have a few reasons to be excited about this, not the least of which is Mr. Ryan Kesler) and the simple fact that I will be able to watch hockey is brilliant all on its own. YAY!

damn it feels good to be a gangsta
WOW. I went to the Sabres/Flyers game tonight and it was fun.
Now, granted, the Flyers were really the Philly Phantoms (AHL) and I had only heard of about 4 guys on the ice (literally, I think the only names I recognized were Shelly, Carcillo, Guerin and Mezaros.) But all of that is beside the point because the Sabres scored 9 BEAUTIFUL goals and won the game 9-3 after falling down 2-0 about 5 minutes in.
It was a ton of fun. I had my youngest nephew with me and he had a good time counting all the goals and cheering. :) It was great to be back in my brother-in-law's awesome seats in section 116. I missed hockey in a serious way. :) I know it was just the preseason, but the Sabres played hard all night and didn't give up when they had the game in the bag. Every goal was a work of art and many were from a lot of determination and excellent passing.
I love love love the Roy-Stafford-Ennis line. Such energy, such skill! Sign me up. (and don't lose it, boyos!)
I still hate Tim Connolly. He looked completely useless and LAZY out there tonight. In a game your team is DOMINATING, you should be more involved. Blah on him.
And Royzie was top-notch tonight. He was all over the place. THIS is the Royzie we know he can be.. lets just hope he remembers it too. : )
Let's Go Buffalo!!!
I am SO ready for the season.

our little sabres
Royzie and Pommers each scored a goal (both one-timers) in todays USA-CAN World Championship game.
Canada won 5-4. Sounds like it was a fun game to watch, too bad I couldn't!
Oh in the ECHl the Cincinnati Cyclones are playing in the Eastern Conf final. I know their coach and a couple of players. WOooo for them! (and hey, Chuck Weber, the coach is from Lockport!)
And in the west, the Utah Grizzlies are plying in the conf final. Who'da thunk it? They were superbad last year and did not win a game in February (or March, I forget which, but a whole month) this year and they still made the playoffs. And are, apparently, winning. I guess it helps when you get the players you sent up to the AHL/NHL back. anyway good for them, I know about 2 players and the coach and one guy on the staff there, but still, I did spend a year working for that team so I care a very teensy tiny bit about them stuff. They kinda shafted me at the end though so it's only a tiny bit of caring.
that's really the hockey news of the moment. when do the NHL conference finals start?

I *heart* Montreal
awww man the Habs are pretty much done. it's 6-4 with 20 secs left. :( I think I broke them, they were up 3-1 until I turned on the tv. WHOOPS!
but wow the Canadiens fans are very classy (at least they are tonight). They cheered their guys even when Philly scored that empty netter and they knew it was over. That's good stuff.
Poor Carey Price. Don't worry buddy, you're still just a kid. You did a lot here and I'm sure that you will have more chances. Don't beat yourself up too much over this.
Good job Marty Biron. I do still enjoy you, since you didn't shaft the Sabres. But I still don't like the Flyers. yick.
Oh dear. CHris Simpson is wearing a jacket that looks like someone's ugly random curtains. seriously, what is she thinking?!
weird. when Umberger scored one of his goals, he ran straight to the bench instead of hugging his guys on he ice.
e-surance commercials bother me.
ugh I feel gross. I ate too much dinner but it was good food. my family likes to cook too much and so I like to eat too much.
Hey, tomorrow is Derek Roy's birthday! I would like to spend the day staring and pictures of Royzie and watching his episode of 'cribs' but I have other things to do. Oh well. I guess I'll survive. ;) ;)

Time for some fun analysis
Have I mentioned lately that I love Google Analytics? It's hilarious. Let's check out my keyword searches:
"dion phaneuf has an annoying voice"
- I particularly enjoy this one since I have never heard mr. Phaneuf speak, much less commented on the fact. He does have creepy eyes, which I think I mentioned a few posts back but I fail to see the connection. It makes me LOL though.
then it gets interesting. There are 2 recurring themes, Derek Roy and Travis Rycroft.
We have:
Derek Roys Girlfriend
Derek Roy AND girlfriend
Derek Roy girlfriend- x2
Derek Roy's Girlfriend - x3
my goodness, someone is curious. This one almost makes sense, seeing as I discuss Derek Roy so very often, and have actually used the phrase "derek roy's girlfriend" before in jest. But still, that's a lot of searches about the same topic. I am pleased to see that the one with the most searches is the one that is grammatically correct at least. ;)
then we come to Mr. Rycroft:
Travis Rycroft Girlfriend
Travis Rycroft Pictures
Travis Rycroft 2008
"Travis Rycroft"
Travis Rycroft- x3
For a guy who doesn't play for the Sabres, he's sure attracted a lot of attention. And since I only mentioned his name once, in passing, it's even more surprising. Although I can see why ppl want pics of Rykes, he's a very attractive man-
Exhibit A:

Exhibit B: (he's the one on the right, obviously)

But.. while I did work for the Utah Grizzlies for a year when he was there, that was 2 years ago and I have barely spoken to him since then. I don't know anything about his girlfriend, though he didn't have one when I knew him, and though I do have some other pics of him, I've never mentioned it before in my blog. ;) But again, I could talk about Travis all day long. He's a great guy and a decent hockey player. He's very hard-working on the ice, and that counts for a lot more than just points. ANd did I mention he's gorgeous? Cuz he is probably one of the most attractive people I have ever known. Ever. But he's not an asshole. He is a genuinely good person. He was probably one of the most attentive listeners, especially among hockey players, that I have ever encountered. I interviewed him for the radio (one of my many jobs, and the most fun of them all, when I was with the Grizz) and his interview was far and away the best one I had. And he was randomly touchy-feely, in a non-creepy way. He's just come in and put his arm around me and ask me to fax something, or situations like that. and I can't say that I minded too much.. ;)
Anyway there it is. I could go on about him, but I'll spare you. For now. ;) In case any of my random Utah visitors sees this- say hi to him for me, eh? ;)
I think that's enough for now. a nice trip down memory lane.

He sure played a mean pinball
Today there was an interview with Royzie on Sabres.com. (He expects to play tomorrow. YAY! How about 2 more goals?)
You can view it above. Some things of note- YOU CAN SEE HIS EYES!!!! I think Derek has lovely eyes, but we never get to see them in interviews, because he is almost always wearing a hat!!! and today he was wearing a hat, but it was backwards (he was having a thug day LOL) and so revealed his eyes for us (me) to revel in. :) Thank you for making my day brighter, Mr. Roy.
And do you think he was cold today when he woke up? the hoodie AND the huge coat? My man, it was actually warmer today than it's been in a while. I dunno, it made me laugh. And how fast can he sprout a beard?

Whooaaa. I'm not sure if I like all that. A bit of scruffiness is hott, but that was too much. *unless it's the playoffs, then we can talk*
Okay enough of that.
It's Wednesday, and as Wednesdays were the publishing day of Hockey Snacks for a while (the old hockey humor site I used to read), I'll do a Hockey Separated at Birth, in honor of that.. So today we have:

(Sabre)Danny Paille
and

(actor) Justin Bartha.
Separated At Birth?
I dunno, they're both pretty darn cute. And I always think Justin looks a bit like Luc Robitaille too. Not a bad thing at all my man..
